Hey freelance friends!

Do you need to spice up your freelancing business? Writing blog posts every day can get a little boring — after freelancing for 10+ years, I should know!

So I analyzed the last 18 months of my own freelance business to round up a diverse list of writing projects beyond traditional blog posts.

Check out these fresh ideas for branching out with new projects to apply for and offer clients.

15 Freelance Writing Project Ideas

  1. Data ranking articles: Think, "U.S. Cities with the Worst Air Quality" 👉 literally just wrote this for a client.

  2. Branded content: Most online media companies have in-house agencies that produce sponsored content. These clients pay the big bucks!

  3. White papers: Research-intensive and often include interviews with subject matter experts.

  4. Lead magnets: Great for small businesses and solopreneur service providers who want to grow their email lists.

  5. Thought leadership pieces: Ghostwriting for CEOs in industry publications or LinkedIn.

  6. Quizzes: These are quick, easy and fun! But don’t price too low, because there’s still quite a bit of research involved despite the low word count.

  7. Product descriptions: E-commerce is still booming and businesses need optimized descriptions on their websites and Amazon.

  8. Professional bios: Catchy copy for social profiles, websites, and presentations.

  9. Social media posts: Text only - don’t think you need to suddenly become a graphic designer!

  10. Newsletters: Round up industry news, blog posts, and/or YouTube videos. This is a great upsell to make existing content go further.

  11. Video scripts: From courses to YouTube, and even social media reels, video is the future, my friends.

  12. Presentations: Service providers giving conference presentations need succinct, expert copy. Be clear on whether or not you’ll handle any design components.

  13. Landing pages: Businesses need to be found online and optimized landing pages are a great way to do it.

  14. Press releases: New service? New office? New hire? Companies want to share the news. Google “press release” template and now you know how to write a press release. You’re welcome!

  15. Reviews: Affiliate sites need review round ups - it’s an integral part of the business model! These can be a time suck, but they’re easy and available in all industries, including both products and services.
