I worked all day Sunday
Here's why I don't care
The quickest way to scale as a writer? Ghostwriting.
✅ You don’t need any startup capital.
✅ You don’t need a big social audience.
✅ And you don’t need decades of writing experience.
Yep, I worked most of the day Sunday and I don’t care. Not just because I’m not a huge football fan (but also, go Ravens!). I’m grateful for working on Sunday because of a medical emergency that uprooted my schedule the week before.
When life keeps lifing
Last Wednesday afternoon, I got a call that made my stomach drop. The first words out of my husband’s mouth were, “Can you text me a picture of the health insurance card?”
Um, why?
Because our sweet little 10-year old wiped out on a skate park ramp and his arm was dangling in a U shape. Poor guy. 😢
Work went on the back burner for several days as we navigated an overnight hospital trip, pain meds, and sleepless nights (thankfully no surgery so far). By Saturday night, I had a chance to catch up on sleep and finally felt like I could string more than a sentence together on Sunday morning. And so I kept stringing sentences together - as many as I could to tie up client projects.
Still playing catch up
Even now on a Tuesday, nearly a week after my son’s accident, I’m still working to deliver late assignments without pushing back things for this week. But it’s ok. Freelance = flexibility and while it’s amazing when we get to travel or take off on a random day for fun, it’s also great when I need to drop everything and race to the urgent care to be with my family.
I’m tired, I’m still a little stressed, but I am overall grateful.
When life gets hard, does freelancing make things harder or easier for you? I’d love to know!
